Supplements fail to deliver promise of vitamin D-3
Supplements fail to deliver promise of vitamin D-3
If you read this column occasionally, you know how we feel about taking vitamin D-3: It’s a must. That’s because you’re probably deficient in D-3 (75 percent of adults are), and running chronically low increases your odds for heart disease, osteoporosis, type 1 diabetes, high blood pressure, possibly some cancers (though that’s not clear yet) and more.

DHA Supplements For Breastfeeding Mothers
DHA Supplements For Breastfeeding Mothers
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid, is essential for the growth and development of infants’ brains. Very premature infants may be deficient in DHA because they miss out on the third trimester in utero when the fatty acid accumulates in tissues. In addition, their gastrointestinal system is immature, and health problems often increase the risk of malnutrition. Furthermore …

Is there any benefit or harm to my daughter if I take Omega 3-6-9 supplements while breastfeeding?
I’ve been wanting to take some Omega 3 supplements for a while now, just to boost my energy along with the other benefits… They’re on sale at my local drugstore this week, so I figured now is the time to ask!

Have you found the omega-3 supplements really work or is this the placebo effect?
I was diagnosed with both ADHD and mild anxiety, so adderall was not a very good choice for me with both of those conditions. I tried taking these high quality krill oil omega 3 supplements, two pills twice a day which is maximum dose. I’ve noticed within weeks that I can concentrate better, think more rationally and clearer, and have better memory. Have you also found this when you took these supplements or is this just a placebo effect? Thanks!
Anyone pregnant and taking fish oil supplements?
I’d be interested to know if anyone has been taking fish oil supplements while pregnant? Or anyone on here that did take them during past pregnancy?
I’ve read that omega-3 is really good for a babies brain development, especially during the 3rd trimester. Fish oil capsules are a great source of this, and so is fish but doctors ask you not to eat too much fish. I googled the fish oil caps and found a lot of similar information, along w/ blogs where pregnant women had said their doctor recommended the fish oil during pregnancy.
I called my doctor and was kind of suprised w/ her response after what I had read online. She said generally fish oil capsules are not recommended for pregnant women as they are a class “C” medicine, which basically means there haven’t been sufficient studies showing the benefits out weigh the risks. However, there have also been no studies that show any negative effects on a human or animal fetus from use of such a supplement.
I can imagine that some opinions may be that mercury is the issue w/ the capsules, but this is not the case. The supplements I have contain no mercury, and that is not a factor in why my doctor “generally doesn’t recommend them.”
So… opinions and/or experience ladies? Thanks!!
Best supplements for humans?
I’ve been doing my research and tweaking my supplements and diet. Unfortunately, as most of you know, the internet is an unwavering guide of mixing nonsense with fact. I’m a student at Purdue for nutrition but I’m only a sophomore so I’m fluent in health yet.
I know already that a multivitamin containing the standard “must have” vitamins (A, C, etc.. plus Zinc and all that) is a must. I also know that green tea extract (I prefer to drink actual green tea because i enjoy the flavor and aroma) and omega 3 is an absolute must. I’m having trouble deciding what else to add into my daily supplements.
Let me give you some further information on who I am and what I want:
I do workout 6 days a week. All are high intensity and 3 out of six days include weights. I have an EXTREMELY active metabolism (one that I can eat anything and still lose weight). I’m 21 years old. I have a slender build. Diabetes runs in my family (no threat to myself as of yet) as does obesity (again, with my active lifestyle there’s no threat of obesity to me YET).
I’m not looking for supplements to complement my workout as those are a dime a dozen and I’ll get a thousand different answers all arguing against each other. I have forgotten more about exercise supplements then most people will ever learn. The supplements I want and take promote longevity and health. I repeat, they promote longevity and health. What does this mean?
The supplements I incorporate into my daily life should promote a long and active lifestyle (ie should promote a highly functioning metabolism, alertness, mental stability in all its form [memory, reactions, etc...], bone and muscle health, etc…). These supplements should also promote general health and regulation (ie gastrointestinal health and regulation, cardiovascular health and regulation, nervous health and regulation, etc…) as well as preventative measures (ie cancer prevention, anxiety prevention, depression prevention, fatigue prevention, etc…).
This isn’t so much as a matter of opinion as it is a question of what has worked for everyone else. I’m looking for everyone’s input who has a source to site. Please try and site a source so I know what I could potentially be putting in my body. I appreciate everyone’s answer.
Thank you
Again, I’m NOT LOOKING TO LOSE WEIGHT OR BUILD MUSCLE…I got that on lockdown.

Are Omega 3 supplements recommended the 1st trimester of pregnancy?
I know that pure DHA/EPA supplements are recommended the last 4 months of pregnancy but what about the 1st trimester? I am taking pure Omega 3 supplements (Pregnancy Plus brand) and TTC – Just wondering if I should just wait until the 2nd trimester if I get pregnant?
What is Omega 3 supplements and are they as good as natural omega?
What is Omega 3 and how does it work? what is it useful for?
Thanks
