April 1, 2009 – Fish Oils Offer NO Heart Benefit www.pcrm.org Find out how eating fish flesh causes billions of sea animals to suffer, is terrible for your health, and destroys the environment. For years, pregnant and nursing women have been warned to limit the amount of fish they eat, because many marine species may contain high levels of mercury, which endangers newborns and fetuses. To all those who think that fish oil is essential for their health, Omega 3 can be totally obtained from plant based sources, eg. Flaxseeds, flaxseed oil caps, walnuts and other sources. Raping the oceans and every sentient being that lives in it, is ecological insanity and is unethical. CHART – Essential Fatty Acids in OILS www.annecollins.com whattoeatbook.com Mercury is the most toxic non-radioactive element in the world and it is released when coal is burned. There is no such thing as clean coal. Mercury falls to the ground and is distributed to streams, rivers and lakes and to the oceans where it is consumed by bacteria and becomes methyl-mercury, an organic form that is then easily absorbed by plankton and zooplankton. Mercury is an immortal element; there is no way to get rid of it once it is released in the environment. Once heavy metals and POPs (persistent organic pollutants like PCBs or pesticides) are digested they are very difficult to get rid of and they bio-accumulate in all organisms. As a general rule, every step up on the food chain these toxins are found, they are …

I am 22 years old and have a very fast metabolism. I track what I take in daily and have tracked the caolries I burn throughout the day using my timex ironman watch. Based on the information found below, what should I change or keep the same. Everything I eat is healthy food so I know I dont need changed there I am more concerned with how many calories, carbs, protein and fat I should intake per day.

Currently this is what I average per day

3400-4000 calories, 400-550 carbs, 220-270 protein, and 70-110 fat.

I try taking most of my carbs during the day and stick with lean meat and veggies and fruit later in the day.

I take a supplement shake before the gym and also after the gym (musclejuice) 1 scoop prior and 2 post.

I use the BSN mass stack and take 1000mg vitamin c’s daily along with omegas 3-6-9.

Today was an average day with no work I burned 3086 calories. A work day I would burn about another 500. I also already know about calorie defecit but havent tried it…..

The bottle says to take three daily with a meal, but I was questioning if that was too much? Also the dosages are balanced well. For example, there is much more Omega 3 than there is Omega 6, and Omega 9 has the least dosage. Thanks for the help! Other advice also welcomed!

As part of my weight program I’m dieting and doing a ton of running rather than working out like I had been. My goal is to get down to 200lbs by January. I’m currently at about 215 or so, down from about 225 over the summer. I’ve been running between 30-60 minutes per day for a weekly total of about 5-6 hours. I’ve read that 3,500 calories make 1lb of fat so my goal has been to create a deficit of 7,000 calories per week so that means 1,000 less calories per day which means I should be loosing about 2lbs per week. My goal has been to run off 500 calories and reduce my diet by 500 calories per day. The running part is easy, just run for 30 min or longer per day. Diet wise I’ve dropped down to 1,500 calories per day which seems to have worked so far. I wanted to know if you think that’s about right or if I should cut even more to say 1,200 calories per day ala Weight Watchers program, or if 1,500 per day is already pushing it. I’m counting everything I eat and keeping a log and so far I’ve been able to operate on 1,500 calories without feeling extremely hungry or weak during the day, though it’s definitely not the best thing to do for taste. I’ve tried to switch over most of my caloric intake to fruits and vegetables which have higher density but lower numbers of calories so I at least feel full even if I’m consuming less calories. I ask about 1,500 per day because on all the nutritional information on packages they are all based on a 2,000 calorie diet. Is that what a normal person eats? In a lot of the weight gaining and body building books they talk about 2,500 to 3,000 per day, even when trying to slim up. So I wanted to get your thoughts on all of these things. Also besides my 1,500 calories I take the following vitamins once per day: a general multivitamin, a calcium supplement, and a fish oil pill (for omega-3 fatty acids). Thanks in advance for any answers you all might have for me!

As far as numbers, I’m 28, almost 29. I’m 5’11″ and I currently weigh right at 215lbs, and I’m male.
