If alpha lipoic acid is so good for diabetics and a strong antioxidant-how can it with only a 32 min 1/2 life?

l take one 200 mg. ALA per day and have recommended ALA to a diabetic in the family. I don’t take it for any specific condition other than for its reputation for strong antioxidant activity. But, my enthusiasm was diminished when I read that ALA only had a half life of 32 minutes. I take a lot of supplements, including 4 grams of bilberries per day and 6 plus grams of omega 3 fish oils. I thought that might be excessive until I heard of a 94 year old taking ALA and 9 x 1000 mg of fish oils per day! (He must be doing something right) It sounded like a lot until I remembered that it takes 28 grams to equal an ounce; then 1/3 of an ounce didn’t seem nearly so much as when we eat (or trim off ) several ounces of fat off of a steak. I would just like for someone to help me justify going ahead and taking ALA, say 2 x 100mg ALA per day.or one 200 mg per day. Some do not recommend taking more than 100 mg per day. What is the correct dosage? More information on this will be appreciated.

Omega 3 Fatty Acid

Dr. Holger Berges talks about Omega 3 Fatty acid. ω−3 fatty acids (commonly spelled omega-3 fatty acids) are a family of polyunsaturated fatty acids which have in common a carbon-carbon double bond in the ω−3 position. September 8, 2004, the US Food and Drug Administration gave “qualified health claim” status to ω−3 fatty acids, stating that “supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA ω−3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.” People with certain circulatory problems, such as varicose veins, benefit from fish oil. Fish oil stimulates blood circulation, increases the breakdown of fibrin and additionally has been shown to reduce blood pressure. There is strong scientific evidence, that ω−3 fatty acids significantly reduce blood triglyceride levels and regular intake reduces the risk of secondary and primary heart attack. Some benefits have been reported in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and cardiac arrhythmias. There is a promising preliminary evidence, that ω−3 fatty acids supplementation might be helpful in cases of depression and anxiety. Some research suggests that fish oil intake may reduce the risk of ischemic and thrombotic stroke. In addition ω−3 has shown to aid in other mental disorders such as aggression and ADHD.

Where can I find omega-3 fish oil supplements that are enteric coated and in the “free fatty acid” form?

I need this information because my girlfriend’s twin sister may have Crohn’s disease. And this specific type of omega-3 supplement has been shown to be as effective as the standard treatment of steroids. If we can get it then my girlfriend will take the supplement as a preventative measure as well as her sister.
